Love is in full bloom

Made with a real flower!

Every spring, Venice is covered in red roses. To celebrate the Festival of the Blooming Rose, men give a bocolo, a single red bloom, to the women they love. The Venetians tell a story of a boy and a girl who fell in love while gazing at each other through the leaves of a rose bush. The bush bloomed, and the boy gave the girl one of the beautiful red flowers. To commemorate their young love, the Venetians follow their example every April.

Not everyone can count on a magical flower bush, so we've decided to create a rose that blooms all year round. The Stauer Bocolo Rose Brooch was expertly crafted using a real natural flower. The glistening green and red enamels perfectly match the color of leaf and petal. The gold-finished edges transform the flower from a simple blossom to an enchanted bloom.

Red Rose Brooch

I will be wearing this today for the first time. It is gorgeous! Well made except that I am unsure if the pin's latch will stay closed,so I am using a clear plastic earring backing to ensure that I do not loose it. (Pin the brooch where you want it and before closing the latch slide the earring backing up the pin for very short distance.) The brooch can not come off. I look for many complements from this piece of my collection.

Red Rose Brooch

This brooch is gorgeous. I have worn it almost every day since I got it a week ago. It gathers a lot of attention.
My only problem is the latch. It is too flimsy to hold well. Until I get the jewelry store to replace it, I have used the back of a pierced earring (the tiny plastic looking thing that goes on the ear ring shaft to keep it from loosing. When the pin has gone through fabric and you are ready to hook it, put the plastic piece before closing). Should the clasp fail and it unhooks, the earring backing will hold it secure on the fabric.
