The 22 x 30mm bezel-set cabochon of pink mother of pearl is surrounded by a frame of sterling silver ropework and ornate granulation. Bali jewelers are famous for their mastery of granulation, a technique in which small pieces of silver are heated until they pop into perfect beads and are painstakingly applied by hand to each piece. Look closely at the sterling silver cable chain and you can see that each link is encircled with tiny silver beads. That detail is repeated for each and every link...for the entire length of the 20" chain! Such effort and attention to detail by skilled artists almost demands that we treat this necklace as a piece of wearable sculpture.
