A royal Russian egg

In 1898, Czar Nicholas II gave a Fabergé Imperial Egg to Maria Feodorovna. Known as the Lilies of the Valley Egg, it was enameled in pink and pearls with delicate gold-stemmed pearl and diamond lilies of the valley with green enamel leaves. A set of miniature portraits of the czar and his eldest daughters completed the design.

This miniature Lilies of the Valley jewelry box, made expressly for the Metropolitan Museum in the United States, was inspired by the Fabergé original. The box is 24K gold plate, with simulated pearls, hand-applied enamel, and Austrian crystals. 2"L x 1 ½"W x 1 ½"H.
