Naturally mined diamond in Atlantic Blue.

The Stauer Blue Diamond is perhaps the single most mesmerizing piece of jewelry that we have ever offered. Our inspiration comes from studying the history of the famous Hope Diamond and so admiring the beauty and majesty of this very rare blue jewel, we just had to do one for our best clients. The Hope Diamond was mined in India in the mid 1600's and was initially purchased by a wealthy French merchant who subsequently sold it to King Louis XIV of France, in 1668. At the time it was named the "French Blue."

In 1791, during the French Revolution, King Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette attempted to flee France with the royal jewels, but were apprehended while trying to escape. I don't know what they were thinking; they must have lost their heads. Twenty years later, the diamond surfaced in the possession of King George IV of England who had built up such tremendous debts, that upon his death in 1812, the diamond was sold to help pay them.

In 1839 the diamond surfaced in the gem collection of a wealthy English banker named Lord Henry Hope, from whom the diamond takes it name. Over the next 45 years the famous blue diamond passed through a series of other individuals, including the jeweler Pierre Cartier, who sold it to a very wealthy Washington, D.C. socialite named Evalyn McLean. Upon Mrs. McLean's death in 1947, her entire jewelry collection was purchased by the renowned New York city jeweler The Harry Winston Co. who donated the Hope Diamond to the Smithsonian Institution, to become the premier attraction in their "Court Of Jewels" exhibition, where it remains to this day.Now our Stauer Blue Diamond may not be quite as large as the Hope Diamond, but you will not have to own a bank or be French Royalty to be able to afford it either.

Our blue diamond is a natural hand-cut mined diamond that has been gemologically heated to intensify the blue color spectrum of the natural stone. The color is a rare and dazzling Atlantic Blue. Our Stauer Blue Diamonds are available as a one-half carat ring in a traditional setting or as a full 1 carat ring set in the same elegant four pronged 18K white gold setting. Sizes 5-10 are available. Forget blue jewelry boxes, go for blue diamonds.
