What's in a name? Well, when that name is Louis Comfort Tiffany…everything. We've all heard the famous Shakespeare quote: "…a rose by any other name would smell as sweet." And normally I'd consider William's words to be wise. But in the case of Tiffany, I'm not so sure. There's something special about knowing you're in the presence of an authentic Louis Comfort Tiffany creation. No other name in American history has been as consistently associated with luxury. So, I'm sorry Shakespeare. Sometimes the name is important. But more important still are the creations themselves...
Louis Comfort Tiffany mastered many media on his way to becoming America's foremost decorative artist. But he is probably most famous for his impressive work with glass, developing an innovative technique for creating opalescent wonders that radiated dynamic flashes of color. Today, owning a genuine Louis Comfort Tiffany means you were either lucky enough to have inherited it, or are rich enough to afford it. In fact, a collection of Tiffany lamp shades expected to go up for auction soon was recently valued at over $2,000,000.
As beautiful as those original works of art are, that many zeroes is intimidating. That's why we're offering you the chance to carry a little taste of Tiffany with you everywhere you go for a price that's a lot more affordable.
Each of these beautiful timepieces was inspired by an actual Louis Comfort Tiffany creation. The vivid green and white Grapevine Watch was based on the Grapevine panels (now at the Metropolitan Museum of Art), which displays Tiffany's reverence for nature in delicate glass featuring glittering clusters of grapes on flowing vines silhouetted against a distant sky. And the vibrantly colored Favrile Watch (named after the art glass that Tiffany himself invented) comes from an absolutely stunning iridescent vase produced in 1900 that included the stylized "eye" of a peacock feather. The cases of both watches have been lusciously layered in 18K gold and the time is accurately kept by precise quartz movements. This is time as Mr. Tiffany intended.
