It’s difficult to keep up with the trends in royal headwear, especially with all the wild British creations these days. That’s why it’s always better to be a trend setter, like Austrian Emperor Rudolf II. Like other royals of the 16th century, Rudolf had amassed an exquisite collection of art and antiquities. He kept his collection in a cabinet of curiosities, one of the first museums in Europe. And he was always adding to his collection, because the Emperor had an insatiable appetite when it came to jewels. We understand perfectly. So we followed his lead and created the Hapsburg Crown Jewels Collection in his honor.
Rudolf was born into royalty, so no coronation was necessary. But he still always wanted a crown, so he had one made for himself. A renowned Flemish goldsmith was entrusted with the job, and created a masterpiece that would last through the centuries. Rudolf's magnificent crown of gold, pearls, and precious gems represented the height of the European goldsmith’s art. What better place to find inspiration?
We raided Rudolf's cabinet of curiosities and tasked our designers with recreating the best parts of his spectacular crown. Each piece in the collection is crafted from solid 14K yellow gold and set with shimmering natural white diamonds, lustrous cultured pearls and a glistening genuine red ruby cabochon at the center. We’ve crafted lots of breathtaking jewelry over the years, but this may just be our crowning achievement.
