How to tell time with Washington's spare change

An exclusive Stauer timepiece featuring a genuine 1783 Silver Dollar of the American Revolution.

If you're an avid fan of early American history like me, you probably visit the historic sites, walk the battlefields and stand beside beds where George Washington slept. You've admired our country's heritage, but until now, you've never been able to carry a piece of that storied past with you.

Working closely with our partners at GovMint, we have acquired a select cache of rare and historic 1783 silver dollars. Our Founding Fathers recognized that the Spanish silver piece was the most desired coin in colonial America. Thomas Jefferson recommended the Continental Congress adopt it as our nation’s first monetary standard of value. The Congress agreed.

Perhaps most importantly, each of these coins was struck in 1783-the year General Washington won the Revolutionary War against the British and earned our nation's freedom. My challenge to Stauer's watchmakers was to craft a fine timepiece with this remarkable 1783 silver dollar as the centerpiece. The result surpassed my greatest expectations. The watch features an authentic 1783 Spanish silver dollar securely set inside a handsome stainless steel case layered in 18K gold. The back side of the coin was chosen as the watch face to highlight the detailed image of the crowned Spanish coat of arms set between the Pillars of Hercules. Every 226-year-old coin is uniquely worn and aged, distinguishing each watch as a one-of-a-kind keepsake. Two blue, Breguet-style hands keep time using recessed Roman numerals along the outside of the dial.

Each 1783 Silver Dollar Watch fastens with a genuine brown croc-embossed leather band and is water resistant to 5 ATM. You will also find a declaration of authenticity etched into the caseback. This limited-edition timepiece will not last long. We have only a few historic coins available...this is truly a limited edition that can't be repeated.

Beautiful historic timepiece

I just got this watch a month ago and absolutely love it! It is a great representation of American history and makes me think about our heritage every time I look at it. This watch is a bit larger than I expected but is not too large. It keeps great time and is very professional looking. This is a first in what will be a growing collection of Stauer watches!

Wrist History!

Just rec''d my watch today, and as with all of the other Stauer watches I''ve purchsed, it''s stunning. It''s truly cool owning a piece of history, and I anticipate this will be quite the conversation piece. It''s a large watch, but that''s OK--it''s built around a large coin. (This coin, by the way, is called a ''piece of eight'' because it often used to be cut up into eight pieces to conduct transactions in smaller denominations.)Kudos to Stauer for wrapping a piece of history into a beautiful timepiece.

Handsome watch

This is a very distinctive, handsome watch. Description is entirely accurate. The only caution is that this is a large watch (45 mm) so it really requires a substantial wrist! I just received this and have since ordered another Stauer coin watch. Note: Stauer should provide more detailed warranty information; it is pertty marginal. The entire presentation (case, etc.) would be improved if a more professionally printed warranty and directions were included. That is only reason I have given a 4-star rating.
