When you asked me to assemble a multi-colored bouquet of Africa’s finest tourmaline, I nearly told you to go do it yourself. Buying high-quality African gemstones isn’t like window-shopping on Fifth Avenue you know. You’ve got to have your wits about you. My journey took me from the hustle and bustle of Lagos, Nigeria, where I had to elbow aside some unscrupulous types to find perfect pink tourmaline, to the harbor city of Maputo, Mozambique, where I found that all the rumors about green tourmaline vivid enough to match the famous Brazilian paraiba stones were true. Magnificent stuff. All I can tell you about Dar es Salaam, the tropical Tanzanian city is: take an umbrella. But don’t worry, we got our share of sun in Cape Town. I’ll be here on the beach if you need me. Enjoy the gemstones.
