George Washington’s secret weapon

After 237 years, we may have finally found the watch that crossed the Delaware and changed American history

Christmas night, 1776. Commander-in-Chief of the Continental Army, George Washington gathers his men to plot a surprise attack against the Hessian forces at Trenton. Before leading his men across the icy Delaware River, Washington has them set their pocket watches in the first recorded use of synchronized watches in a military campaign. Their perfect timing leads to a resounding victory that boosts morale and turns the tide of the war.

The Punctual Patriot. Washington was famous for his timing. Not only did it help him on the battlefield, but the Founding Father lived his life by the order of the clock. Unfortunately, researchers never found a watch that could be traced directly back to Washington... until now. A discovery at the home of Mary Custis has uncovered an important artifact from America’s earliest days. Records show that the watch was given to Washington’s daughter-in-law and passed down through the generations. Not long ago, it found its way into the hands of the most famous watch restorers in the world.

Recreating History. The startling reappearance of this long lost artifact inspired us to recreate this important timepiece. Designers studied the original source material and worked closely with restoration experts to bring Washington’s watch back to life with remarkably accurate detail. The William Webster 1768™ Pocket Watch represents a luxurious piece of history.

In the mid 18th-century, the best watchmakers in the world were working in London. We followed in their footsteps with the William Webster 1768™, even going to great length and expense by including a genuine enamel dial. The final result is a striking modern timepiece that harkens back to a distinguished generation of British watchmakers and American patriots.
