Provenance meets faith in the Stauropolis Ring

The inspiration for Stauer’s name came from the ancient city of Stauropolis. Once known as Aphrodisias, the city was built to honor the Greek goddess of love and earned its name Stauropolis, (Greek for ‘City of the Cross’) as it harbored an ancient Christian community as the faith spread from the Eastern Mediterranean throughout the Roman Empire
and beyond.

The Mediterranean city was most famous for its magnificent marble sculpture, but it was also home to philosophers, a popular theater, a vibrant commercial district and the inventor of the romance novel. Proving our theory that the most spectacular stories can’t be made up, the city was even once ruled by a former slave of Julius Caesar who rose from the humblest of beginnings to create one of the Roman Empire’s capitals of culture.

Today only ruins of the ancient temples remain, but at Stauer the romantic and artistic spirit of the city lives on. This ring pays homage to our namesake beautifully. A gorgeous fiery opal with its rainbow of colors glows like a stained glass window beneath a golden cross accented with white diamonds.
