Achieving clarity, Renaissance style
Over 4 carats of natures most lucid gemstones
Jewelry in the Renaissance period tended to have a minimalist silhouette with an emphasis on jewel-toned gems. Gold was favored over silver and designs almost always looked regal, whether the wearer was of royal decent or not.
We’ve channeled that regal Renaissance look with two gemstones that have a legacy of bestowing clarity. Amethyst, which means “not intoxicated” in Greek, was believed to have the power to keep you sober. Wealthy rulers and nobles would decorate their drinking vessels with the purest purple amethysts they could find. Around 1,000 years later, and many miles northwest, innovative Vikings were using iolite gemstones as lens filters to navigate the seas on cloudy days.
With the Renaissance Necklace, we’ve combined high-quality finds of these two ancient wonders into one luxurious, gold-finished necklace. The central 2 ½-carat amethyst is bookended by two iolite stones totaling 1 ½ carats of violet-blue clarity. It’s easy to see this necklace isn’t just a beautiful portrayal of Renaissance style, it’s a great example of a Renaissance in price.
