Truffles cannot be cultivated, they are a natural treasure that can only be “found,” therefore they are a rare delicacy that can fetch quite a price. In fact, in 2016 a 4-pound white truffle sold at a Sotheby’s auction for $61,250.
We have a more affordable way for you to enjoy these “diamonds of the kitchen.” We sought out Italy’s finest purveyor of gourmet truffle condiments. “Giuliano Tartufi” was born of a hobby and a passion: when Giuliano Martinelli would go into the forest each morning to hunt for truffles with his inseparable dog Leda. Between 1986 and 1989 he began buying and selling fresh truffles. He eventually started his own company, Giuliano Tartufi in 2001. And, his Truffle Sauce is out of this world. This mixture of field mushrooms, black olives and black summer truffle, is wonderful with pasta, rice, egg or meat dishes. You can also use it for appetizers, on crostini, bruschetta or as a filling.
