Talk about your Blue Crab!
Abalone served on sterling silver... savor the Blue Crab
If you’re like me and live near a body of water like the Chesapeake Bay, you’ve gone crabbing. And, if you’re lucky enough to catch a Blue Crab, you’re in for a real treat. This crab with its beautiful iridescent claws and shell lives up to its scientific name “callinectes sapidus” which means “savory beautiful swimmer.”
While I have to admit I love a good crab cake, I’d prefer to not cut their 1 to 3 year life span short. So, I decided to design a few pieces to capture the beautiful shimmering color and iconic silhouette of these creatures instead. And the perfect gem? Why another water creature of course. Abalone, the underwater gastropod that’s not only a rare delicacy itself— maybe the world’s most expensive shellfish— it carries a shell coated with nacre that produces the most impressive rainbow you can hold in your hands.
I decided to serve our pretty Blue Crabs in sterling silver instead of on ice for a charming (and humane) way to savor the fascinating and alluring Blue Crab.
