Treasures of the sea
Larimar & the dolphin -- two of nature's ocean beauties -- brought together in gleaming rhodium-finished sterling silver
In 1916, Father Miguel Domingo Fuertes Loren knew he’d found something special. During his time in the Dominican Republic, the Spanish priest and naturalist had come across a stunning blue stone unlike any he’d seen before. The noted geologist and botanist requested permission from the government to mine the stone, but was denied.
It wouldn’t be until 1974 that the blue stone would be rediscovered by the Mexican author Miguel Méndez and a Peace Corps volunteer on a Dominican beach at the foot of the Sierra de Bahoruco mountain range.
With the gem reflecting the color of the Caribbean surf, the natives believed the stone came from the ocean itself. Combining the Spanish word for sea – mar – with his daughter Larissa’s name, a new gemstone was born: Larimar. Found only in the Dominican Republic, this rare gemstone captures the magic of the Caribbean waves in wispy swirls of blue and white.
In celebration of this dreamy blue stone and its aquatic connection, we’ve paired it with the intelligent, enchanting dolphin to give you the Larimar Dolphin Earrings. With 8 carats of beautiful blue larimar set in .925 sterling silver, these earrings are sure to win the heart of the one you love.
