Unmistakably Murano, undeniably modern
Made in Italy
In his famous book “Outliers,” Malcolm Gladwell argues that it takes 10,000 hours, or approximately 10 years, to become an expert in any given field. The glassmakers of Italy laugh at this number. They’ve been perfecting their craft for more than 700 years, working on and near their small island in Venice since 1291, passing down skills and secrets from generation to generation.
Murano has no equal because the latest generation of artisans are creating pieces in bold and colorful patterns and shapes that are elegant, eye-catching, and, above all, unmistakably Murano. The beautiful piece you see here, showcases “Millefiori,” also known as “Murrine.” This is one of the best-known and highly sought after techniques of Murano glass making. It stands for “a thousand flowers” in Italian, and indeed, the end result of this painstaking work reminds one of a field of whimsical flowers showing off their beautiful colors.
This necklace is so much more than beautiful jewelry, it’s a piece of history that represents the imagination, ingenuity and expertise of the world’s best craftsmen
