The Medici family of Florence was the wealthiest in Europe throughout the Renaissance. The Medici’s legacy includes bankrolling the creation of the first piano and the art form of opera, funding the construction of both the Papal Basilica of St. Peter in the Vatican and the famous Santa Maria del Fiore Cathedral in Florence, and patronizing the talents of Leonardo, Michelangelo, and Galileo, so they could share their talent with the world.
Inspired by this regal Renaissance family, we contacted a modern Florentine dynasty of leather goods workers and asked them to create a wallet fit for the Medicis themselves. The Medici Wallet was crafted by the Peroni family, a father and sons team who still do everything by hand in their Florence workshop. They do not do rush orders, because they believe in taking the time to achieve perfection.
For the Medici wallet, the Peronis used vegetable tanned leather and the “cuoio artistico Fiorentino” method, which makes the wallet miraculously seamless. The outside of the Medici Wallet is with handpainted 22-karat gold trim. This level of luxury should not be available for $199, so we recommend acting fast if you want a Medici Wallet in your pocket.
