Opals are fascinating gemstones. Not just for their incredibly unique geological makeup, but for their many varieties. I go all over the world for opals–– to the unforgiving terrain of Lightning Ridge in Australia for deep, shimmering black opals. For opals with a rainbow of colorplay, I venture to the Wollo Province in northern Ethiopia. And, when possible, I head to historic Querétaro Mexico for vibrant orange fire opals.
But my most breathtaking journey for opals took me to 22,838 feet in the Andes mountains near San Patricio Peru. There I found a rare stunning pastel opal known as a Peruvian pink opal. Looking into a Peruvian pink opal is like gazing into a pink sky with dreamy wisps of white clouds.
This pretty pink gemstone is a rare find and is seldom seen in jewelry stores. I made sure to cherry pick the finest I could find and then had them designed into gorgeous pieces featuring generous cabochons of Peruvian pink opals framed in sparkling white rounds with accents of ruby red rhodolite garnets.
And, even though I went to great heights to get these rare pink beauties, the price isn’t elevated, putting romance well within reach.
