There is a Callery Pear tree in Manhattan known simply as The Survivor Tree. This 50-year-old tree was the last living thing to be rescued from ground zero following 9/11, from whence it emerged scarred and broken. Slowly but surely it was nursed back to health until it recovered and blossomed. The Survivor Tree now stands as a symbol of national resilience in the plaza of the 9/11 Memorial, inspiring visitors from around the world as an emblem of everything that is unconquerable.
There was only one jewelry designer capable of capturing the spirit of The Survivor Tree, and that man is Michael Michaud, whose unmistakable technique involves making a model based on natural elements, in this case the luscious green leaves of The Survivor Tree, and placing that element at the heart of these earrings. Michaud's Survivor Tree Collection was commissioned by the National September 11 Memorial and Museum, and every indomitable piece is handcrafted in the heart of New York City.
