The cut is humanity’s contribution to the beauty of gemstones. Color, clarity, and carat, the rest of the 4 Cs of gem grading, come mostly from nature. What we call the cut not only determines how precisely a finished gem is fashioned but also its shape. The standard gem shapes of rounds, squares and rectangles are solid choices, but for those looking for something unique, symbolic, or vintage there are fancy cuts. 

We found a gem cutter who knew how to cut fancy, but then we needed a stone that could carry a unique look. Helenite made the cut. Not only is helenite stunningly beautiful with a green fire that puts most emeralds to shame, it has fascinating origins. Born from the volcanic eruption of Mount St. Helens in 1980,  it was found that heating the volcanic material created a beautiful green stone, with a verdant hue so pure it earned it the name “America’s Emerald.” This ring not only showcases the gem cutter’s exemplary skill but the profound beauty of this uniquely American stone.
