The Lost Knife of Atlantis
Archaeological search reveals a tool for the ages
My archaeology mentor Gabi was a true character. Built like Santa Claus, he had a quick wit, a mischievous personality and loved to flirt with the fairer sex. The tales of this Kris Kringle of the Levant are legendary, but today I’ll share his quest to find the lost city of Atlantis.
Though Gabi was considered one of the best diggers in the Middle East, his true obsession was with Atlantis, the lost civilization believed to have been a superpower of the ancient world. I thought it was all a bunch of hokum, but who could argue with a day of diving off the coast of Crete?
Into the depths we plunged, encountering shipwrecks, submerged columns and quite a few surprised fish. But near the end of our last dive of the day, I found myself wrapped up in an industrial fishing line with my air quickly running out. Luckily, Gabi saw my predicament and freed me with his diving knife.
Inspired by the tool that saved my life, here’s the Lost Atlantis Knife, a blade that won’t let you down in a jam. This full-tang, 9 1/2-inch knife features a blade of Damascus steel, a blue pakkawood handle and a steel bolster that’s a testament to its strength.
Though we never did find Atlantis, I came away with something much more valuable: my life! Thanks to the Lost Atlantis Knife, you’ll always have the right tool for the job. –– Jack B.
