History becomes artistry
Handcrafted in the USA
Turquoise is one of America’s most ancient gems. This particular piece of beautiful turquoise is called Campito and hales from the Pino Chueco and Cananea mines in Sonora, Mexico. Campito is derived from the Spanish word “campo” meaning “field” or “countryside”. Campitos Turquoise was mined extensively in ancient times, with evidence of trade with Native American peoples. This variety of turquoise was sacred to the Toltecs and Aztecs.
Campitos is unique in several ways. It grows in clay as free-form nuggets, rather than in veins which is typical of many North American turquoises. Its color closely resembles that of the highly-coveted Sleeping Beauty Turquoise and ranges from a light to medium blue. Occasionally you may find pyrite inclusions, which give it a little bit of sparkle.
This stunning stone deserves a setting fitting its legacy. So we sought out the talents of a designer who has a way with marrying gem cutter prowess with a modern aesthetic that results in one-of-a-kind creations. This ring features a generous Campitos turquoise stone with floating insets of sterling silver, resulting in a fresh contemporary look.
