Though Australia has been the dominant force in opals for more than 100 years, that country’s opal supremacy is being challenged by a relative newcomer. In 1994, Ethiopian opals were put on the map after a small discovery in that country’s Menz Gishe District in the northern part of the Shewa Province. After two additional discoveries in 2008 and 2013, Ethiopian opals have grown in esteem for their spectacular play-of-color in a wide variety of body colors and patterns.
Here, we’ve paired high-end Ethiopian opal with white onyx, a beautiful natural stone with an icy white background and veins of golds and grays. Set in 14k yellow gold formed into a classic art deco octagonal profile, the Deco Opal Collection is handily one of the most stunning jewelry sets we’ve offered.
