One of American’s greatest love stories, the handsome young couple captured our hearts as they lit up the White House with style and a fresh outlook. But it was the first lady’s collection of jewels that really made the Oval Office sparkle.
The year was 1963, and in anticipation of celebrating their tenth Christmas together, a very optimistic Jack purchased a pink kunzite ring for his wife. Unfortunately, he never had the chance to give it to her.
In the days after the President’s death, the ring was delivered to the White House and the couple’s personal secretary gave the ring to Jackie. The ring, a final posthumous present from her beloved husband, came to hold special sentimental meaning for the young widow. And for a long time after his death, it was almost impossible to separate her from her kunzite ring. This ring auctioned for over $400,000 in the Sotheby’s auction of Jackie’s estate.
Kunzite’s color of lilac and delicate pink is unique and rare in the gem world, and can appear pink or violet depending on the angle. This gorgeous gem is named as a tribute to George F. Kunz, the legendary American mineralogist and buyer for Tiffany & Co., who first described the gem in California in 1902.
There are pink kunzite rings over 10 carats going for as much as $3,500. They can’t hold a candle to ours, not in beauty and certainly not in price. This Christmas delight your first lady with over 11 carats of this enchanting gem in an exquisite emerald cut for less than a nice dinner out. A beautiful (and diplomatic) way to celebrate your great American love story.
