Lapis Lazuli and Italian Gold - a match made in the heavens

Lapis has an amazing history as a gemstone having been recovered from some of the earliest artifacts known to man. From the intricate burial treasures of Tutankhamen to the splendid frescoes of Renaissance, lapis lazuli has been a symbol of power, piety, and a portal to divine connection. Embrace the legacy of lapis lazuli — experience a piece of the heavens in your own collection and partake in the heritage that shaped the very foundations of art.

Lapis lazuli is a cornerstone in the annals of artistic achievement. Its celestial blue hue, speckled with golden flecks, echoes the infinite expanse of the night sky, inspiring artists and rulers alike. Michelangelo used lapis sparingly due to its exorbitant cost, however, it can be seen in his magnificent frescoes in the Sistine Chapel, adding depth and vibrancy to the celestial scenes.

Known for his meticulous attention to materials, Leonardo da Vinci used lapis in his paintings, including the famous “The Virgin of the Rocks” where the Virgin’s robes are depicted with this rich blue. Lapis is so enduring that those blues are as vibrant today as when they were painted 500 years ago.

Our lapis necklace is set by our artisans in the Renaissance Arezzo region, where DaVinci painted and Michelangelo was born, and is encased in 14k gold.
